Frequently Asked Questions
about inviting a doula into your birth experience
About Birth Doula Support
-
Absolutely. A doula's role isn't to influence how you give birth—it's to support the choices that feel right for you. Whether you're planning an unmedicated birth, an epidural, an induction, or a cesarean birth, I'll be there to provide evidence-based information, hands-on comfort measures, emotional support, and a calm, reassuring presence throughout the experience.
-
Think of me as a steady, familiar face throughout your pregnancy and birth. I'll help you prepare ahead of time, answer questions as they come up, support you physically and emotionally during labor. I’ll be there to advocate for you alongside your partner so you feel informed, cared for, and confident every step no matter how your birth unfolds.
-
Yes! I support families in home births, birth centers, and hospitals, pretty much wherever you feel safe to give birth! My approach stays the same no matter the setting you choose!
-
I'm based in Shelby, North Carolina, and regularly serve families throughout the Foothills, Gastonia, Charlotte, Belmont, Forest City, and parts of Upstate South Carolina. If you're outside my usual service area, reach out anyway, I'd be happy to see if we can make it work.
About Postpartum Doula Support
-
Every visit is different because every family is different. Some days that means newborn care, feeding support, or talking through your questions. Other days it looks like meal prep, folding laundry, entertaining an older sibling, or simply holding your baby while you take a shower or get some much-needed rest. My goal is to support you just as much as your baby.
-
Yes! Overnight care allows you to get the restorative sleep your body needs while I care for your baby. Whether you're bottle feeding, pumping, or breastfeeding, I'll support your feeding goals while helping the nights feel calmer and more manageable.
-
Not at all. Some families book support for the first few days after birth, while others appreciate ongoing care for several months as they settle into new routines. We'll create a plan that works for your family's needs.
-
While I don't diagnose or treat postpartum mood disorders, I provide compassionate, judgment-free support, a listening ear, and evidence-based resources. If additional care would be helpful, I'll also connect you with trusted local professionals.
About Childbirth Education
-
